Dear Friends and Colleagues – Important Update from Nepal
On August 26, 2026, Nepal was struck by a devastating natural disaster when a major ice avalanche in the Langtang Himalaya triggered powerful flash floods, causing widespread destruction across parts of Rasuwa and along the Trishuli River corridor.
In a matter of hours, rivers rose with extraordinary force, sweeping away homes, bridges, roads, and vital infrastructure. The Nepal–China/Tibet border area at Rasuwagadhi was severely damaged, while communities and settlements along the Langtang Valley and downstream areas, including Syabrubesi, Trishuli Bazaar and Nuwakot, were deeply affected.
For those of us living and working in Nepal, this was not simply news from a distant disaster. It was a tragedy that touched our communities, our friends, our colleagues, and a region that is very close to our hearts.
We were incredibly relieved that all of our staff and guides were safely away from the affected areas when the disaster occurred. At the same time, our hearts remain with the families who lost loved ones, their homes, and their livelihoods.
Nepal is now facing the difficult task of recovery and rebuilding. Roads are being cleared, access is gradually being restored, and rescue and relief efforts continue. While the affected areas will need time to recover, most of Nepal’s major tourism destinations remain safe and operational.
Despite the challenges, Red Reach Himalaya remains fully operational. Our team is here in Nepal, monitoring the situation closely and working with our local partners to ensure that all upcoming journeys are planned safely and responsibly. We are ready to assist you and your clients with existing bookings as well as new travel arrangements. We want our friends, partners, and travellers around the world to know that Nepal remains open, resilient, and ready to welcome you.
Thank you for your messages, prayers, concern, and continued support. At a time like this, knowing that friends around the world are standing with Nepal means more than words can express.
With gratitude and respect,
Ramesh Hughes
