The Golden Triangle Trip Overview

The Golden Triangle brings together three of North India’s most fascinating cities – Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. This 7-night journey offers a comfortable introduction to India’s history, architecture, royal heritage and everyday life.

Begin in Delhi, where the old and new sides of the capital sit side by side. Continue to Jaipur, the colourful capital of Rajasthan, with its magnificent forts, palaces and historic observatory. The journey then takes you to Agra, home to the Taj Mahal and some of the finest examples of Mughal architecture.  Along the way, there is time to experience more than the major monuments, including a rickshaw ride through the lively streets of Old Delhi, the remarkable stepwell at Abhaneri and the fascinating abandoned Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri.

The itinerary is designed at a comfortable pace, with private road transfers and sightseeing, allowing you to enjoy the highlights without rushing from one place to another.

Tour Itinerary – The Golden Triangle

Day 01 – Arrive in Delhi – Welcome to India

Arrive at Delhi International Airport, where our representative will meet you and assist with your transfer to the hotel.  After check-in, the rest of the day is free to rest after your journey or begin getting a feel for the vibrant capital of India. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 02 – Explore Old and New Delhi

After breakfast, spend the day discovering the historic and modern sides of Delhi.  Begin in Old Delhi, the heart of the city during the Mughal period. Visit the area around the Red Fort before taking a traditional rickshaw ride through the narrow and lively streets towards Jama Masjid, one of India’s important historic mosques. Continue to Raj Ghat, the memorial marking the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi.

In the afternoon, explore New Delhi, including Vijay Chowk, the Presidential Palace area and India Gate, built in memory of Indian soldiers who died in the First World War.  The day ends with a visit to Qutub Minar, one of Delhi’s best-known historic landmarks and an impressive example of Indo-Islamic architecture. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 03 – Delhi to Jaipur – 260 km / 5–6 hours

After breakfast, check out and drive to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan and one of the most colourful cities in India. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and take some time to relax. Later in the afternoon or evening, enjoy a panoramic drive through Jaipur, seeing some of the city’s landmarks as they begin to light up. Overnight in Jaipur.

Day 04 – Explore Jaipur

After breakfast, begin your sightseeing in Jaipur. Make a photo stop at the famous Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, with its distinctive façade and numerous small windows. Continue to Amber Fort, a magnificent hilltop fortress reflecting the history and architecture of the Rajput rulers. The fort combines grand courtyards, palaces and artistic details, with fine views over the surrounding landscape. Later, visit the City Palace, a beautiful complex of courtyards, palaces and museums that offers an insight into Jaipur’s royal history and the city’s blend of Rajput and Mughal influences.

The final visit of the day is to Jantar Mantar, the historic astronomical observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. Its large stone instruments were designed to observe and calculate astronomical movements. Overnight in Jaipur.

Note: Elephant rides at Amber Fort are subject to local regulations and availability. We can arrange an alternative means of reaching the fort if required.

Day 05 – Jaipur to Agra via Abhaneri and Fatehpur Sikri – 240 km / 4–5 hours

After breakfast, check out and drive towards Agra. On the way, stop at Abhaneri, a historic village famous for Chand Baori, one of India’s most remarkable stepwells. Its geometric flights of steps descend deep into the earth and reflect the ingenious ways people traditionally collected and stored water in this dry region of Rajasthan.

Continue to Fatehpur Sikri, the impressive abandoned Mughal city built by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century. Once the capital of the Mughal Empire, the city was later abandoned, and its palaces, courtyards and gateways remain remarkably well preserved. After exploring Fatehpur Sikri, continue to Agra and check in to your hotel. Overnight in Agra.

Day 06 – Explore Agra and the Taj Mahal

Rise early for a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, this magnificent marble monument is one of India’s most recognised landmarks. The soft morning light offers a beautiful time to experience the monument and its surrounding gardens. Return to the hotel for breakfast.

Later, visit Agra Fort, a vast historic complex that served as an important residence and stronghold of the Mughal emperors. Its walls, courtyards and palaces reveal the changing character of Mughal architecture over several generations. In the afternoon, visit Itmad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb, often referred to as the “Baby Taj”. Built for Mirza Ghiyas Beg, the father of Nur Jahan, the elegant marble tomb is known for its delicate decoration and inlay work. Overnight in Agra.

Note: The Taj Mahal is closed to visitors on Fridays.

Day 07 – Agra to Delhi – 210 km / 4–5 hours

After a leisurely breakfast, check out and drive back to Delhi. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax, do some last-minute shopping or explore Delhi independently. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 08 – Depart Delhi

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out by 12:00 noon. At the appropriate time, you will be transferred to Delhi International Airport for your onward flight. We normally arrange the airport transfer approximately three hours before your scheduled departure, or according to the airline’s recommended reporting time. Your Golden Triangle journey comes to an end.
