Everest Base Camp Trek Without Flight

Flying to Lukla can be affected by unpredictable mountain weather, whether departing from Kathmandu or Ramechhap (Manthali) Airport. Over the years, we have observed that even when flights operate smoothly in one direction, the return flight can still be disrupted. Instead of relying on a domestic flight, this itinerary takes you overland through the Solu region and into the Everest region by road and on foot.

A Classic Everest Trek Without the Flight

The Everest Base Camp Trek Without Flight offers a different way to experience the Everest region. Instead of flying to Lukla, you travel by private 4WD from Kathmandu to Salleri and continue along the mountain road towards Surke. From Surke, the trek begins on foot, joining the classic Everest Base Camp trail at Phakding.

The overland approach gives you the opportunity to experience the changing landscapes of Nepal, from the hills and terraced farmland around Solu to the high Himalayan valleys of the Khumbu. You also avoid the uncertainty of Lukla flight cancellations and delays.

Once you reach Phakding, the journey follows the classic Everest trail through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche and Lobuche before reaching Everest Base Camp. You will also climb Kala Patthar for spectacular views of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

Over 18 days, this journey combines an overland adventure, gradual acclimatization, Sherpa culture and some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Nepal.

This alternative route provides not just an unforgettable trek but a deeper connection with the landscapes, culture and people of the Everest region. If you are looking for an Everest Base Camp adventure without the uncertainty of domestic flights, this is an excellent overland alternative.
Why Choose the Overland Route?
