Bardiya National Park: 3 Nightsand 4 Days Jungle Safari
Overview of Bardiya NationalPark
Bardiya National Park, located in Nepal’s Western Terai, is the country’s largest national park, spanning 968 square kilometers. Established in 1976 to safeguard diverse ecosystems and protect the habitats of tigers and their prey, it was redesignated as Bardiya Wildlife Reserve in 1982 and elevated to National Park status in 1988. The park’s surrounding buffer zone is collaboratively managed by park authorities and local communities. Visitors can experience the park from unique perspectives, including elephant rides, while the Karnali River offers opportunities to spot the rare Gangetic dolphin.
The park is a vital sanctuary for endangered species, including the rhinoceros, wild elephant, Royal Bengal tiger, swamp deer, black buck, gharial, and marsh mugger crocodile. It is also renowned for the near-extinct Gangetic freshwater dolphin. Birdwatchers can observe endangered species such as the Bengal florican, lesser florican, silver-eared mesia, and Sarus crane. With over 30 mammal species, more than 200 bird species, and a variety of snakes, reptiles, and fish, Bardiya’s forests, grasslands, and rivers teem with biodiversity.
