In Chitwan, Nepal’s best-known wildlife destination, you may come across the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, wild elephants, crocodiles and many species of birds, with the Bengal tiger always one of the most exciting possibilities. Jeep safaris, nature walks and canoe rides offer different ways to explore the park.

Bardia National Park offers a quieter and more remote wilderness experience. Its forests, grasslands and river systems support an impressive variety of wildlife, including rhinos, wild elephants, crocodiles and, with some luck, the elusive Bengal tiger. The park is also known for its rich birdlife and Gangetic dolphins.

Further west, Shuklaphanta National Park remains one of Nepal’s lesser-known wildlife destinations. Its wide grasslands and wetlands are particularly famous for swamp deer, while the forests and surrounding habitats support a remarkable variety of birds and other wildlife.
