Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi which takes about nine hours. You head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Syabru Besi passing through Dhunche. While passing along the road at the bank of Trishuli River you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces and green hills. As you pass through Dhunche you feel as if you are heading towards deep land.
The first part of the trail crosses through Bhote Koshi and follows the Langtang Khola. This trail is gradually ascent up to Bamboo passing through landslide. Afterwards, you trek down gently to Rimche (2400m.) through Bamboo (1960m.) which lies at the bank of Langtang Khola. You can have lunch at this place if you like. And at the end your trail is level to the Lama Hotel. En- route you could see red pandas, monkeys and bears if you are lucky.
As you continue climbing there are occasional glimpses of Langtang Lirung between the trees. At Ghora Tabela [3000m], the trail emerges from the forest. The trail continues to climb gently and the valley widens, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders who bring their livestock to graze in the high pastures during the summer months. There is a monastery, which you can visit shortly before arriving at the village of Langtang, the headquarters of the Langtang National Park.
The trail climbs gradually through small villages and yak pastures as the valley opens out further and the views become more extensive. After crossing several small streams and moraines, the trail reaches the settlement at Kyangjin. You should arrive at Kyangjin by lunch time allowing time to acclimatize and explore the area. It is a dramatic setting, with snow-covered peaks surrounding you in all directions such as Langtang Lirung, Ganjala peak, Tserko RI, Langsisa RI and many others.
This is a day off for acclimatization and a proper rest, exploring interesting places like the monastery and the cheese factory. You can walk up the moraine and climb Kyangjin Ri at 4350m for views of the surrounding peaks.
This is an ascent for five hours to Yak Kharka where the tents are pitched for a night under canvas.
A four hour trek along lateral moraine to the high camp at 5500m. The horse can make it this far if the ground conditions allow, depending on whether there is deep snow or not.
At the summit of Yala peak, there are panoramic views of Shishapangma, Dorje Lakpa, Ganchenpo, Naya Kang, Tserko Ri , Langtang Lirung and many Tibetan mountains. The last 700 metres will require being roped up and using crampons and a walking axe. There is a final shapely ridge to negotiate to the small summit. Those who do not choose to add the Yala Peak summit day will rest in Yala Peak basecamp and await the return of the climbers before continuing on back down the valley. Rturn to Yak Kharka.
Trek from Yak Kharka to Kyangjin Gompa which takes about four hours. You trek descent path all the way to Kyangjin Gompa. The views you can enjoy are of Ganchenpo, Naya Kang and others.
Start early for a long walk back to Rimche, the walk is just downhill so you will be fine. You may find yourself getting faster as you go due to the extra oxygen in each lower-altitude breath.
Trek to Shabrubeshi via Sherapagaon and Khangjim (1460m) village. Plenty time to rest and take good showers.
