Trekking in the Himalaya
Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the world’s great mountain journeys, but reaching Everest Base Camp is not something that should be rushed. Our 17-day private Everest Base Camp Trek is designed for travellers who want to experience the Khumbu properly — walking through Sherpa villages, spending time in Namche Bazaar, visiting ancient monasteries, allowing enough time for acclimatization, and reaching Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar without turning the trek into a race.
This is a strictly private trek operated by Red Reach Himalaya. We do not put you into a large group simply to reduce the price. Your guide, trekking arrangements and pace are organized around your own group.
We believe a Himalayan trek should be priced honestly and operated responsibly. Rather than trying to offer the cheapest Everest Base Camp package, our priority is providing good guides, reliable arrangements, sensible acclimatization and personal service from a local Nepal-based trekking company.
The Everest region is high altitude territory. A good itinerary needs more than simply counting the days required to reach Base Camp.
Our itinerary includes acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, giving you time to adjust to the increasing altitude before continuing towards Everest Base Camp.
This is not a fixed group departure.
Whether you are travelling alone, as a couple, with family or with a group of friends, your trek is arranged privately. We can also discuss adjustments to the itinerary, accommodation and walking pace according to your needs.
The main goal is, of course, Everest Base Camp (5,364m).
But the trek does not end there. An early morning climb to Kala Patthar (5,545m) provides one of the finest viewpoints of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and the surrounding Khumbu mountains.
The Everest Base Camp Trek is much more than a walk to a famous sign.
Along the trail you will experience Sherpa culture, Buddhist monasteries, prayer wheels, mani walls, suspension bridges, mountain villages and the changing landscape of the Sagarmatha National Park.
Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorak Shep each give the journey a different character.
Red Reach Himalaya is based in Nepal. We know the region, the trekking routes and the practical realities of travelling in the Himalaya.
From your arrival in Kathmandu until you return from the mountains, we aim to keep the arrangements straightforward and the communication personal.
This private Everest Base Camp Trek is suitable for travellers who want to experience Everest with a well-planned itinerary and personal service rather than simply choosing the lowest-priced package.
You do not need previous mountaineering experience, but you should be comfortable walking for several hours a day on mountain trails and understand that this is a high-altitude trek.
If you have more time, want to include Gokyo Lakes, Cho La Pass, Renjo La or another Everest region experience, we can also create a tailor-made itinerary rather than simply following the standard route.
Our Epic Everest Base Camp Trek is priced according to the size of your private group.
Travelling with more people generally reduces the per-person cost because the guide, transport and other group arrangements can be shared.
Indicative private group pricing:
| Group Size | Price Per Person |
|---|---|
| 1 person | US$ 2265 |
| 2 people | US$ 1870 |
| 3 -5 people | US$ 1790 |
| 6-9 people | US$ 1725 |
| Sgl room supp | US$ 150 |
Please contact us for the current price for your group size and travel dates.
We don’t try to win business by offering the lowest possible price and then compromising on the service. Our aim is to provide a fair price for a properly organized private Everest Base Camp trek. Read our reviews.
Arrival in Kathmandu met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight in hotel in Kathmandu. Bed & Breakfast
Sightseeing tour of Boudanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Kathmandu Durbar Square. There will be a thorough pre trek briefing by your trek leader in the evening to sort out any last minute queries etc. Overnight in hotel in Kathmandu ‐ Bed & Dinner/Breakfast . Please take note that the weight allowance for the flight ktm/lukla/ktm is 14kgs and weight allowance per person on trek that the porter will carry is also 14kgs.
Early breakfast and early transfer to the airport. The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla is one of the most spectacular in the world – S.T.O.L. Twin otters fly this route of contrasting country with the snow line of the Himalayan range to the north and rugged foothills of Nepal immediately below and stretching away to the south. The landing at Lukla airstrip (9,184/2,800m) adds considerably to the general excitement of landing on a mountain airstrip. At Lukla we will be met by our Sirdar and the entire trekking crew which includes Sherpas, kitchen staff and porters who will be with us for the duration of the trek. After a sort out and a cup of tea, we begin our trek to Phakding. Overnight at Phakding. 3 to 4 hours walk.
At present - you may have to travel to Ramechap 135 km - 4 hours drive from Kathmandu. If it is the case we will plan your accommodation and revised slightly to your itinerary.
After three hours of following the banks of the Dudh Kosi River we come to a spectacular suspension bridge, which marks the start of the climb up to Namche. Near the halfway point up the hill views of Everest (29,028’/8,850m) and Lhotse (27,916/8,511m) come into sight. Namche is the most prosperous and largest town in the Khumbu. A traditional – trading center, a market is held every Saturday. The wares on display include grains and vegetables, tennis shoes and trinkets as well as hand woven aprons and Tibetan boots. Thamserku (21,806 ‘6,648m) and Kwangde (20,417/6,224m) loom to the east and west, and the sacred mountain Khumbila (18,729/5,707m) dominates the skyline to the north behind the village. Time – hours.
Please take note that this is a tough day but the head Sirdar will liaise with you constantly on how you are feeling and coping with the altitude. You do not required to rush, just make slow pace, you can make it. 5 to 6 hours walk.
A day walk towards Thame (12,467/3,801m) for acclimatization. During an acclimatization day it is important to take some sort of exercise and preferably to gain some altitude before sleeping at the same height for a second night. From Namche we traverse westwards on our acclimatization walk with views of Kwangde (20,806’/6,343m) and the waterfalls, cascading off its flanks into the Bhote Kosi far below. We cross the river higher up and climb up through rhododendron forest to Yak pastures, which Surround Thame. This is the birth place of Tenzing Norgay, the first Sherpa ever to climb Mt. Everest. It is easy to cut it short for anyone finding it hard going. 5 to 6 hours leisure walk.
The trail descends forming a dramatic view of Ama Dablam (21, 9641/6,696m) and Kangtaiga (22,235’/6,779m) flanked by the towering heights of Sagarmatha (the Nepalese name for Everest). Lhotse and Nuptse. Cross the Dudh Kosi at Phungithanga and climb through rhododendron forest to the saddle at the top of the hill. Here lies Tengboche, the main monastery of the Khumbu area. The views from here are unforgettable. Tengboche lies at the base of Kangtaiga and the spur of this ridge affords panoramic views of the main peaks of Khumbu including Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. 5 to 6 hours walk.
Descend from Thyangboche and again cross the Imja Khola, and then trek uphill gradually to Pangboche. There is an interesting Gompa site above the main village. The trekker is in the midst of the Himalaya here, with spectacular views all round. For acclimatization, there is a need to spend two nights around the 14,000’/4,268m level and Dingboche lying in a sheltered spot above the Imja Khola is generally more attractive than Pheriche. It is however, of note that the Himalayan rescue association has their aid post at Pheriche.
5 hours walk.
A day walk up to Chukung (4730m) is highly recommended. The route gradually ascends to the few scattered stone huts that make up the settlement. To the south are ever changing views of Ama Dablam and to the north the massive walls of the Nuptse ridge and the south face of Lhotse. 5 hours walk.
The route past Pheriche slants over a ridge and stays above the village. It joins the trail below Thugla. There are great views of Cholatse (21,129/6,442m) across the valley. After another steep ascent, the trail climbs up and over the terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. Up and along the west lateral moraine of the Glacier, the trail is in parts. Stark and rugged beauty creates almost a moonscape. Camp site at Lobuche, a windswept collection of huts tucked in a narrow meadow between the glacier and the Lobuche peak (20,192/6,156m). Tawache and Nuptse are particularly spectacular from Lobuche, towering almost 2 kilometres directly overhead. Time 5 Hours.
The route continues along the north bank of the Khumbu glacial moraine crossing rough boulder fields. Great views of Pumori and all the peaks across on the other side of the glacier. There is a short descent down into a sandy bowl known as Gorak at the foot of Kallar Patter. 4 hours walk.
From Gorakshep there is a short steep descent down the lateral moraine onto the Khumbu glacier. Once on the glacier the route meanders through the Ice bluffs following a well‐worn trail laid down by the yaks supplying base camp. It takes approximately four hours to reach base camp at 5,360M/17,044’. Once at base camp the Sherpas will organize a small Puja, ceremony, with prayer flags and incense to mark your arrival. Great opportunity to take photos on the Khumbu ice fall. The return retraces the route to Lobuche. 7 hours walk.
Continue your trek down to Debuche. Overnight at Debuche. 5 hours walk.
Trek to Namche Bazar via the famous Tengboche monastery. Overnight at Namche Bazaar. 5 hours walk.
Most people head towards Lukla with a heavy heart. There is something very special about the setting, the villages, the peopleof the high Khumbu hills and valleys and it is sad to leave them. After the sharp descent to the Dudh kosi we cross it by the high suspension bridge and then enjoy a pleasant day walking back through the valley villages of Monjo, Benkar and Phakding and then the deceptively long climb leading up to Lukla. Our campsite and lodge are well located and offer a good final resting sport for the one night stay before the early morning departure. This evening a party is organized with our trekking crew during which there is lots of Nepalese dancing and everyone is expected to dance!!! After the party with heavy hearts bid them goodbye. At this point it is recommended that you share some tips with porters and trek staffs. 6 hours walk.
Flights to Kathmandu operate during the mornings before the winds above the Dudh Kosi build up. The take – off is as spectacular as the earlier landing – and then 40 minutes later, Kathmandu. You will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight hotel – sharing bed & breakfast basis
Just precaution about Flight Condition: Because of weather and technical reasons, the flight to the remote mountain airstrip could be delayed or postponed or cancelled. Therefore, this extra day has been kept as a buffer to ensure your international flight to onward journey not to be affected.
Day of leisure in Kathmandu. Shopping, good showers or go to barber shop for haircut and shave. Overnight in hotel in Kathmandu ‐ Bed & Breakfast
