Arrive in Kathmandu, the bustling Nepalese capital. The streets of Kathmandu reflect the turbulence the country has seen over the last decades. The Maoist rebellion, the deposition of the king and the abolishment of the kingdom, and finally, the devastating 2015 earthquake which left deep scars throughout the city and beleaguered tourism by Covid19 pandemic. However, a second look beyond the ongoing buzz typical to most big cities reveals the charm of a place that keeps some secrets well hidden. From the airport drive to the hotel.
After breakfast visit Swoyambhunath Stupa, atop the hillock is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal. enlisted in the World Heritage Site. SwayambhuStupa watches over the Valley from the top of a hillock on its western side just three kilometers west of the city center. The stupa is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal and its establishment is linked to the creation of the Kathmandu Valley out of a primordial lake. Swoyambhu is also known as Samhengu and is listed as a World Heritage Site. It is also one of the oldest and glorious Buddhist shrines in the world which is said to be two thousand years. The four sides of the stupa is painted with the eyes of Lord Buddha and the temple is also known as the watchful eyes of Buddha. Next is Kahmandu Durbar Square, this palace once was the historic seat of Shah Dynasty. The Durbar Square, with its old temples and places, epitomizes the religious and cultural life of the people. It is here that Kings of Nepal are crowned and their coronations solemnized. Interesting things to seek here are; Taleju Temple built by King Mahendra Malla in 1549 A.D., Kal Bhairav, the God of destruction, Nautalle Durbar, Coronation Nasal Chowk, the GaddiBaithak, the statue of King PratapMalla, the Big Bell, Drum and the Jagannath Temple. Finally you visit Patan. Unlike most of other cities in Nepal Patan has majority of Buddhist population. The Patan city has more than 136 Buddhist monasteries and only 50 Hindu temples. Patan Durbar Square is famous for the south Indian style, Krishna mandir, the sunken bath, the tall temple of Taleju and the golden temple.
