Itineraries


Day 01: Drive to Sundarijal (1460m). Trek to Chisapni (2215m) – 23 km (5 hour walk)

  • Drive to Sundarijal (18 km / 1 hour drive). It is about an hour drive from Kathmandu. From Sundarijal we climb up a long stone stairs that follows the water pipeline to the entrance of Shivapuri National Park. We walk through thick pine, oak and rhododendron forests. There are varieties of wild orchids. Continue to climb the stair and pass the water reservoir. The park has wildlife including sloth bears, leopards, wild boar and Indian porcupine. It is a good sanctuary for birds. There are about 150 species of butterflies. We will take a break at Mulkharka. It is a small village with some tea shops. After lunch we pass through an abandoned school. Cross The highest point of the trail is Burlang Bhanjyang La (2,430m). From there it is a 40 minute, 300 meter descent into Chisapani At this point the steep section eases. It is a welcome relief on a hot day. On a fine day you can get first glimpse of the snow-capped Himalayan range. Soon you would be out of the forest. Walk to Chisapani village. Stay overnight at Chisapani.

Day 02: Trek to Sankhu (1700m) – 22 km (6 hour walk). Drive to Kathmandu (20 km)

  • Wake up early in the morning to see beautiful sunrise view of the Himalayan peaks. After breakfast we get ready to climb further to the ridge line. We travel through thick vegetation and forest. The trail from Chisapani make gradual windup through rhododendron and pines forest. We come out on the ridge at Jhule (12 km/3 hour). Three is a small organic farm and a resort in the village. We stop for lunch there. There is great views of eastern side It is cross section of the road that leads to Nagarkot to the east and Bhoteodar to the north. We take a short walk to Chauki Bhanjyang village and continue to descend to Sankhu (12 km/ 3 hour walk). Drive to Kathmandu (20 km / 1hr 30min drive). While in Sankhu we visit Bajrayogini temple. It is a 17th century temple dedicated to a tantric goddess Bajrayogini. Sankhu is one of the oldest villages (now town) in Kathmandu valley. It is believed to be there from the time of early Lichchhavi period, 2nd to 9th century AD. It is inscribed in the archaeological history. This site is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The temple has three tiered roof built in traditional style, a public squares, and rest houses. It is one of the few places that are not in regular tourist round. You find the village very interesting. The streets and houses are very traditional. It was very badly damaged by 2015 earthquake.
