From the flight you get to see the contrasting country with the snow line of the Himalayan range to the north and rugged foothills of Nepal immediately below and stretching away to the south. The landing at Lukla airstrip (9,184/2,800m) adds considerably to the general excitement of landing on a mountain airstrip. At Lukla we will be met by our Sirdar and the entire trekking crew which includes Sherpas and porters who will be with us for the duration of the trek. After a sort out and a cup of tea, we begin our trek to Phakding. 3 to 4 hours walk.

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440 m)

  • After three hours of following the banks of the DudhKosi River we come to a spectacular suspension bridge, which marks the start of the climb up to Namche. Near the halfway point up the hill views of Everest (29,028’/8,850m) and Lhotse (27,916/8,511m) come into sight. Namche is the most prosperous and largest town in the Khumbu. A traditional – trading center, a market is held every Saturday. The wares on display include grains and vegetables, tennis shoes and trinkets as well as hand woven aprons and Tibetan boots. Thamserku (21,806 ‘6,648m) and Kwangde (20,417/6,224m) loom to the east and west, and the sacred mountain Khumbila (18,729/5,707m) dominates the skyline to the north behind the village. 6 hours walk.

Day 05: In Namche Bazaar - Acclimatization day

  • We use today as our acclimatization day allowing our bodies to become acclimatized to the lofty altitude. You may want to walk little further uphill to Everest View hotel for about 2 hours walk or just roam around Namche Bazaar. In Namche you may visit Sherpa museum for an overview of the Sherpa culture and history of mountaineering.

Day 06: Trek to Tengboche (3867 m)

  • The trail descends forming a dramatic View of Ama Dablam (21, 9641/6,696m) and Kangtaiga (22,235’/6,779m) flanked by the towering heights of Sagarmatha (the Nepalese name for Everest).Lhotse and Nuptse. Cross the DudhKosi at Phungithanga and climb through rhododendron forest to the saddle at the top of the hill. Here lies Tengboche, the main monastery of the Khumbu area. The views from here are unforgettable. Tengboche lies at the base of Kangtaiga and the spur of this ridge affords panoramic views of the main peaks of Khumbu including Everest, Lhotse, and AmaDablam. 5 hours walk.

Day 07: Trek to Dingboche (4343 m)

  • Descend from Thyangboche and again cross the ImjaKhola, and then trek uphill gradually to Pangboche. There is an interesting Gompa site above the main village. The trekker is in the midst of the Himalaya here, with spectacular views all round. For acclimatization, there is a need to spend two nights around the 14,000’/4,268m level and Dingboche lying in a sheltered spot above the ImjaKhola is generally more attractive than Pheriche. It is however, of note that the Himalayan rescue association has their aid post at Pheriche. 5 hours walk.

Day 08: In Dingboche - Acclimatization day

  • Take a good acclimatization day, you may walk up to Chhukung ri and return to Dingboche for overnight.

Day 09: Island Peak base camp (5200m)- climbing training by your guide

  • Start leisurely hike to Island Peak Base Camp. It is possible to make the Island Peak summit with no prior climbing experience but you need to have good physical fitness. If you have prior experience in mountaineering then it is to your advantage. Your guide will give you hands-on training on the use of equipments like ice axe and walk on climbing boot, and demonstrate how you move up and down on ropes. Get some rest, we push for the summit at midnight.

Day 10: Island Peak Summit (6165 m) day and back to Chukkhung.

  • Today is the big day for everyone. Prepare to get started before the thin light of dawn as we make our ascent with head lamps, scaling the rocky trail up. Our timing is superb: we'll drink in a glorious Himalayan sunrise atop a shining glacier and prepare for the tough, ultimate climb. A brief trek against a plateau of virginal snow brings us to the steep, precipitous final headwall. Time to put those climbing skills to use! The scramble for the summit is arduous, but you'll never be more proud of yourself. After a brief, triumphant time at what feels like the top of the world, downwards towards the charming village of Chukhung.

Day 11: Trek to Pangboche (3901 m)

  • The trail leads back down the Imja valley, firstly to Chhukung and on to Dingboche and then Pangboche for the overnight stay. From Pangboche about 3 kilometers northeast of Tengboche there is a base camp for climbing nearby Ama Dablam and trekking.

Day 12: Trek to Khumjung (3790 m)

  • Trek to Khumjung is easy day. Close to Khumjung there is another village called Khunde. These two villages with stony fields divided by rock walls have beautiful vistas on all sides. Kunde Hospital, built in 1966 by Sir Edmund Hillary and maintained by the Himalayan Trust, is at the top of the village. Its mission: to treat local people, but it also provides emergency care to trekkers. Khumjung is the largest village in the Khumbu at the foot of the sacred peak Khumbila. Another place worth a visit is Khumjung School which was built by Sir Hillary’s Himalayan Trust in 1960.

Day 13: Trek to Phakding

  • We retrace the original steps of our ascent as we make our way back down the mountain again. The fascinating culture of the Sherpas is on display once more - don't miss a peak at the yak-herding stations at Syangboche. Brief stoppage time at Namche Bazaar, continue to walk down Phakding.

Day 14 : Trek to Lukla

  • Trek to Lukla is fairly easy today. This evening a party is with the crews and lots of dancing . After the party with heavy hearts bid them goodbye. At this point it is recommended that the trek leader collect tips that clients may wish to give to the trekking crew. All tips collected will be given to the Sirdar who will then distribute it to the crew. Please take note that you will be advised on the amount to be tipped to the trekking crew at the pre-trek briefing in Kathmandu prior to the trek. 4 hours walk.
